As I passed the soccer field, a ball rolled in front of me. A player from college asked me to return the ball. I kicked as hard as I could. The ball flew but terribly, in a wrong direction. “Men, I don’t know how to kick. How do I kick right?” I asked. I got interested in kicking patterns. So I watch the college playing soccer. BOOM…BAM…BOOM…! “Wow what a what a kick. All of it is perfect. It seems that each kick sounds like an exploding bomb.”
Almost all of my classmates were soccer trainees and they play soccer every dismissal. So I try to play with them. When I started playing soccer, I found it fun. I consider it one of my hobbies. Time to time, the girls got lesser since they knew that they cannot play soccer when intramurals comes. The boys stop playing soccer because they got addicted to computer games. Me? Well, I am the only one left. Sometimes I team up with the second years or the fourth years versus the college or other high school year levels. All I knew was to kick the ball because I don’t know how to control it. As I observed each game of the soccer players, I found that the ball is not that big at all. It is your friend. It is ready to be controlled for you. As time goes on, I already knew how to control the ball and I can already to kick it to the right direction.
I noticed the goal. It is square and a net surrounds it. It is where each player has his or her eyes on. It is each player’s target. It is rare for a ball to be shot in a goal. In most games only one to three goals can be shot. This is each player’s goal. This is my goal, to shoot to the goal. Since all players have the same goal, values like ‘cooperation’ and ‘unity’ are formed. Only cooperation and unity are the elements in winning the game. On the other hand, pride is the one that gives defeat to your team.
Intramurals almost came. We knew we have to practice but we did not. I came to school early since we are the first to play (versus freshmen). We weren’t ready and we were anxious since we knew that the freshmen kept on practicing. I observed that our team during that time has not found elements unity and cooperation. After the game, we were disappointed of the score 6-1. Team freshmen got six points and we only got one point. Yucks! Really embarrassing, isn’t it? We all learned a lesson. Do not underestimate the opponent, practice often, and unite and cooperate with each other. On our next game (versus seniors), we were already serious since we know that they are fourth years and they are more experienced than us. We are already united. At the middle of the game we got a score of three and they got a score of one. What a miracle! All of us were happy. But this is not a happy ending. They catch up and the score went to 3-3. The seniors won because of the penalty shoot out. We, the sophomores, were still happy since we almost defeat the seniors. We realized what unity and cooperation can do.
In this world, each people are not living in his or her island. God made a purpose. He made one world so that all of us will unite. We are made to be stewards to others. Then that makes life possible until now. We must continue the mission that lived in the past. Now we have to hold hand in hand to shoot the goal of life.
