THe Star That Never Shines

It was a tranquil night. I laid down in my soft cozy bed near the window. The lamp of my room was off. The only thing shinning bright was the moon and the stars giving dusky light in my room. The wind blew gently and it caressed my tired body. I can only hear the howls of the dogs, chirps of the birds and the sways of the leaves. I can not sleep. I kept on moving on my bed trying to find the best and the most comfortable position. My attention was caught when the curtains floated on air and when I saw the stars upon the heavens above. I stared at it. Alas! I found the best position – laying on my back with one pillow under my head and the other between my legs.

I noticed that there were stars of different colors and sizes. Some were twinkling some were not. Some were quiet for and some were near. I traced the stars and I saw different figures. While searching for other figures, a question suddenly went inside my mind. “ Are there many stars out there that I can not see because they can not shine?” I kept on thinking and pondering until I became tired and sleepy. The last thing I saw that right was a star that kept on blinking.

That night, I dreamt of a person named Lucipher. The scene was in a school. Everyone was inside the classroom studying for a test including Lucipher. Since Lucipher was aiming for honors, he went to other classrooms asking some students the answer of the test and the activities they did so as to prepare. He was a teacher’s pet and was rude to his classmates. He felt superior and he looks at his classmates as dumb and stupid. He was always the leader and the reporter of the group activities. He joined all the clubs and organization of the school. Lucipher never gave chance to others. When someone asked him a question, he would act as if he did not hear the question. He kept on gossipng on other people. This continued the whole year round.

The big day has come, the deliberation of honors. He was one of the top 5. He got plenty of medals and certificates during the awarding ceremony. He was contented and happy. He boasted jis awards to his classmates.

After the ceremony, Lucipher noticed that no one came to him to extend his or her congratulations. He noticed that the other top students were cheered and well applaued. Lucipher became sad and lonely. His efforts bore fruits but no one ate it.

I woke up at around 2:45 am at dawn because of the cold air. As I gently closed the window, I looked up the heavens above. I said to myself: Now I know. The stars in the sky will always shine but the stars which you will become will slowly shatter its light when you strive to earn this honor through greediness, selfishness, cheating and lies. “ I went back in bed again and watched the stars one more time. I closed my eyes and slept again waiting until the clock rings at 5:30 am.

Are you a shining star or a cloudy star I will think twice and you will think thrice.
